Built to compete in AHRMA’s Premier 500 class, this Gold Star is comprised “entirely from new replica parts except for the front forks and rear brake.“
The ’61 Gold Star featured a 499cc air-cooled single that produced 40 horsepower and had a top speed of 110 miles per hour. Older models like this one had a tall first gear, which allowed you to hit 60 miles per hour even before you had to shift to second. Dry weight was 380 pounds, and the bike was very successful in TT racing in its day.
The parts on this build are quite impressive: Terry Mead bronze welded frame, Wiseco 10:1 piston, chromoloy pushrods, Carrillo rod, high lift cam, Pearon crank, cases, and cylinder, Autocycle Engineering head (which was ported by Haull’s Custom Vintage), Molnar Fontana replica front brake, Excel wheels, TAB 5 gallon Gold Star fuel tank, Smith mechanical tank, BTH electronic ignition, CRS shocks, TTI 5-speed gearbox, Newby belt drive, Amal 1.5″ GP carb, Marzocchi 35mm front forks…and much more. “This is a very fast and well handling bike. Fairing has some repaired crash damage and the gas tank has a dent on the left side.”
