Andy Sidlow of the UK has made a name for himself with a frame building shop in the UK thanks to units like you see with this interesting BMW listing. If you’re looking for a classic BMW racer (like the one I just bought that I’m about to share with you), this seems very fascinating!
I have to admit that I don’t know much about Andy so I’m going to defer to the seller a bit. “The bike was commissioned by Nigel Verity in 1991 the task of building it was given to Andy Sidlow who was a highly respected frame builder of the time,I have a performance bike magazine which features the bike dated June 1993.Nigel wanted to do something a bit different using the best kit available at the time. The chassis as you can see is totally different from standard with a massive diameter headstock with adjustable for rake and trail top and bottom yolks, the forks are just freshly serviced Ceriani F1 fully adjustable front forks, fresh oil ceals and slider polish by Firefox racing. The front wheel is a 17 inch astralite fitted with fully floating discs and AP racing front callipers, front tyre is new Bridgestone 120 17.The rear wheel is a 18 Astralite running a new Bridgestone 150 70 18 rear calliper is a brembo item. The engine has had a lot of work done to lift performance the cylinder heads were ported and gas flowed and twin plugged by Mez porting running standard size valves but with luftmeister valve springs and camshaft, the pistons are high compression venolia and bored out to 1070cc.The Conrods we’re shotpeened polished and balanced running on standard balanced crankshaft. The gearbox is a pre 1980 but fitted with post 1980 internals to enable the light flywheel clutch, the clutch is a new Richard Moore racing item with competition pressure plate, very expensive but the best. The ignition is electronic with dual dyna coils and carburettors are dellorto 40 mm pumpers very well balanced and set up,the bike starts instantly and is very sweet. There is a oil breather catch tank under the seat which takes care of gearbox bevell box and crankcase breathers. The exhaust headers were again done by Mez porting. The fuel tank is a nice aluminium item filled with explosafe foam which was the norm at the time. After its racing life the bike was made road legal with full lighting loom with headlight rear light indicators and horn, the wiring is still in place and very well done.I took the lights of and fitted a new fairing exactly as the origional build, I have the lights available and they will go with the bike also a full v5.To summarise this is a unique build frame one of one with all of the best kit available at the time and would be ideal as a classic parade or race bike and mechanically running very well with the option of putting it back on the road.”
