Auction Preview – Auctions America Santa Monica

Reader Patrick E. notes that Auctions America is having an auction on July 17-18 at the historic Barker Hangar at Santa Monica Airport. Unfortunately, there’s only 2 bikes, but they’re both cool!

First, a 1902 Wagner

Wagner - Right Side

Wagner Motorcycles originated in Saint Paul, Minnesota. This bike is powered by a single cylinder engine with a side draft carb. This example does not have the original frame but the current frame is period correct.

Last, a 1937 Indian Dispatch Tow

Indian Dispatch Tow - Left Side

I’ve featured several Harley-Davidson Servicars in the past, which are cool because they could be clamped to the rear bumper of a car, allowing for repairmen to drop off a car and then ride their 3 wheeler back home. This was Indian’s competitor, the Dispatch Tow. This example was restored by a museum in the 90s and it’s claimed to be in virtually new condition today thanks to a recent recommissioning.

Phew, that was quite a list. As a bonus, here’s a BMW Isetta “Jadewaggen”.

BMW Isetta Jadewaggen - Front

Years ago, Kurt Donath was CEO of BMW, and he was a big hunter. BMW built him a “Jadewaggen”, which translates to hunting car as a gift. It was a stock Isetta with new bodywork designed to carry two people and their spoils of hunting. Unfortunately, the original was lost, but this has been built as a replica (apparently to exact specifications).
