On September 5th, 2015, Bonhams is hosting an auction at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu. It’s not a large auction (just 6 bikes are currently up for bidding), but let’s take a quick look anyway.
Four of the bikes are in serious need of restoration, the most interesting of which is probably a 1918 Tyler that’s estimated to sell for between $3,900 and $5,500:
There’s also a 1964 Ducati Daytona 250, estimated to go for $6,200-$7,800. Most people know this bike as the Diana, but for some reason Ducati renamed it the Daytona in jolly ol’ England. This example was restored in 2012 and is “presented in generally excellent condition” with upgrades like 12V electrics, Lucas ignition, modern Dell’Orto carb, and more.
Lastly, my favorite, which is a 1954 Ariel HS Mk I, estimated sale price between $7,800 and $9,400. HS stood for Hunter Scrambler, and this was a rare bike. Expect 34 horsepower at 6,000 rpm thanks to some engine modifications. For more information on the HS and the Mark I, II, and III variants, check out this retrospective from Rider magazine.
If you want to see the entire auction, here’s the list from Bonhams. Enjoy!
