This August, Mecum is coming to Monterey as part of Pebble Beach Automotive Week, and they’re auctioning off 18 bikes in addition to a whole bunch of classic cars. Here are my top 3.
1.) 1954 Gilera 150 Sport – I’ve featured a few 150 Sports over the years, and each time I can’t help but stare at the simple but elegant styling. This example is a “well-kept older restoration” that has spent time in a collection in Washington state.
2.) 1977 Ducati 1000 Racer – Mecum apparently has a few bikes left over from the Jim Lattin collection, which dominated Mecum’s June auction in Las Vegas. This bike became part of the collection in 1998 and it’s said to have race-winning history though the listing doesn’t go into much detail beyond that. This bike was featured at the June auction but bidding stalled at $6,000. Per the engine number, this bike presumably started as a 860GT, and I wish there was a bit more information about what work has been done to it.
3.) 1956 Mondial F2 – this is claimed to be #14 of the FB Mondial’s factory 175cc Formula 2 racers. Per Mecum, all were sold or given to “hand-picked individuals who were likely to win, and win they did.” It’s such a wonderful combination of speed and beauty.
For the entire list of 18 motorcycles that will be for sale, head on over to Mecum. What would you want to take home?
