10-26-2017 Update: 17 months later, this GP Suzuki is back up for sale with an approximate discount of 40 percent.
That sounds good, except the asking price is still $124,944. If that somehow brings it down into your price range,
you can find it in the UK
Post-Listing Update: This bike did not get any interest at the asking price of $217,635.
Back in April, I gave you a heads up that Bonhams was auctioning off this legendary motorcycle, one of the last piloted by Sheene in the pinnacle of motorcycle road racing.
Here’s the Bonhams listing, where it was originally estimated to sell between $110,000-$140,000 (later revised to $120,000-$150,000). It did not meet reserve and now it’s on eBay with an asking price that’s quite a bit more.
As it was initially run by Heron, Suzuki’s UK importer, this was never going to be as competitive as the factory machines. ’83 was Sheene’s worst performance in the GP championship since 1980 as he never finished better than 7th. While the original 16 inch wheels and two piston brake calipers are included, the bike currently has 17 inch wheels and four piston brake calipers. As a reminder, this wasn’t just ridden by Barry Sheene – Mick Grant also competed with it and actually won the Macau GP. So, it’s a bike that competed for years at the top level of road racing. In the last few years the engine has been rebuilt twice and it’s now ready for race or show.
