Post-Sale Update: Whatever this mystery bike is (probably a re-badged Gilera), it sold for $1,009 after 36 bids on eBay.
Alright, you know I try to avoid featuring non-running motorcycles. But I have to make an exception when I encounter something I’ve never heard of before, which is why you now see a Volkswagen Apex in front of you.
At this point, you’re probably looking for more details. Unfortunately, so am I. I haven’t been able to verify anything, but I’ve seen mentions online that this was a 202cc bike with a 6 volt electrical system that was produced by Gilera and then rebranded as a VW between 1955 and 1956. Beyond that, I’m hoping one of you somehow knows more about this unique scoot.
This specific Volkswagen Apex has a claimed 1,530 miles and was brought over by a German immigrant who shipped the bike in pieces and…never put it back together. The current seller picked it up, put it together, and turn it into what you see before you. 95% of the bike is claimed to be original, but there are some salvaged pieces from a parts bike. It has the original Pirelli tires and, unfortunately, surface rust all over the place.
