9-19-17 Update: Over two years later, this Hageman build is back up for sale. It’s moved up north a bit, so you can find it in Charlottesville, Virginia with bidding up to $3,100 and the reserve not yet met or a BIN of $14,900
Post-Sale Update: After being relisted, this Yamaha Star Bolt sold for $16,250.
Back in 2013 when Yamaha’s cruiser division Star introduced the Bolt, they had a good (if not necessarily original) idea to give 10 of them to some of the best custom bike builders in the US. The best part of the idea was not giving any sort of rules or restrictions – just let these talented builders go to town. Here’s the winning build from Hageman Motorcycles, and now it’s up for sale.
The competition (and bikes like this) were covered by the usual motorcycle sites, like this picture-heavy piece on Silodrome. The builder, Greg Hageman, took some inspiration from Kenny Roberts and the classic yellow/black Yamaha paint scheme to create a scrambler to compete against a field full of choppers and bobbers.
This specific Yamaha Star Bolt (VIN: JYAVN05E7EA002482) was taken for a year long tour around the USA after it won the competition – many of you probably saw it at a trade show like the Progressive International show. It has about 100 miles on it and the major modifications include Ridewright hubs and Sun rims from Buchanans.
