Post Sale Update: After 24 bids on eBay, this 900SS sold for $20,400.
A sportier evolution of the 860GT, the 900SS was designed to remind riders of the iconic 750SS. Though they’re now appreciating in value, the model was originally in the shadow of the Mike Hailwood Replica so it wasn’t as commercially successful as you may have thought. Like the Honda CBX, the first years of the 900SS’ model run were as a large sport bike, but by the end it had evolved (devolved?) into a fast sport-touring bike.
1982 was the last year of the run, and just 335 were sold that year. In 1981 the bike got new paint options, painted rims, and a redesigned dual seat. If you want more information, check out this writeup from Motorcycle Classics and why they think the ’82 900SS is becoming more desirable.
This example (VIN: ZDMAS9639CB090718) has 9,518 miles and it’s claimed to be in remarkable shape although there’s some flaws on the left side of the front fairing and the left muffler (shown above). The bike has been in the seller’s showroom collection of European bikes for the last 16 years. Prior to storage the carbs were rebuilt, and the seller makes no explicit mention if this bike currently runs.
