A few weeks ago I shared that LEGO will soon be offering a model kit of the new R1200GSW. Well, turns out they might be offering a kit for much older Beemer – and you can help make it happen!
Turns out that LEGO has a program called Ideas, where fans can submit designs for potential future kits. Then the public can vote on what their favorites are, and if an idea gets 10,000 votes within a given time frame, LEGO will officially consider the project for production. So far three designs have made it to the “approval” state. With any luck (and some help from yourself), we could have a BMW /2 become the fourth.
The model was originally built by the creator for a friend to “commemorate his father, who would take him on rides in this very motorcycle through the countryside.” The builder is also working on a sidecar, but for now it features “the unique triangular front fork, hand brakes, a fuel tank, twin engines, a tire inflator, twin engines [presumably the boxer twin engine]…as well as rotating handlebars and a retractable kickstand.”
