A collector in Connecticut with over 150 motorcycles is selling off all 18 of his Bimotas in the next couple of weeks. Four are currently available, and they’re generally claimed to be in museum quality. Put that drool guard on your keyboard!
Just as a preview, here’s the seller’s logic: “I am only selling these Bimota’s because I have decided to reduce the collection to a more managable quantity and I really don’t want to sell just a few Bimota’s and not have a complete collection…so they will all go.” Wow. The featured photo above shows you a bit of what the seller is working with.
In my semi-arbitrary scale of awesomeness, we’ve got the following for sale:
1998 Bimota YB11 – Powered by a Yamaha YZF 1000 engine, this bike has 3,000 miles, 2nd owner, VIN: YB1100043. Only flaw is a crack in the windshield, he’s not been able to source another shield. Unmet opening bid of $10,000
1988 Bimota YB7 – Powered by a Yamaha FZR 400 engine, this is just one of 320 that were made. 4,500 miles, VIN: BIM11111YB7, probably fell over as there are scratches on the left side – the seller attributes this to the self retracting side stand. The seller calls it a 8 out of 10 and not museum quality like his other bikes. Unmet opening bid of $9,000
1990 Bimota YB8 – Powered by a Yamaha FZR 1000 engine, this is one of about 250 that were built. VIN: YB800000553, 11,000 miles, two owner bike that was restored in 2014. Unmet opening bid of $9,000
1986 Bimota DB1 – Powered by a Ducati 750cc V-Twin, this bike saved Bimota. VIN: DB10001, about 13,000 miles, and it’s coming out of some time in storage.Bidding up to $20,100 and the reserve not yet met
I’m not sure what else to say – my jealousy has made me speechless.
