RADwood is coming to Southern California (specifically Orange County) on December 7th, and they want to see more rad 80s-90s motorcycles. On Black Friday, they’ll be running a sale for FREE motorcycle/scooter/moped entries – so what are you waiting for?
If you’re never heard of Radwood before, start with this interview of Bradley Brownwell (one of the organizers) on Roadkill. But here’s the short version:
“A friend mentioned that he wanted to see an American Goodwood. Sure. Radwood was started by myself, Rick Deacon, Art Cervantes, and Lane Skelton. We all host podcasts (Driving While Awesome!, Clutchkick, and Cammed & Tubbed). We’re all fanatics of ’80s and ’90s cars already: they’re modern cars that are still relatively simple to work on and provide an ‘analog’ driving experience, we gelled with that idea. The way I’ve been saying it, Goodwood covers an era that is very British. In the 50s, 60s, and 70s, America was importing culture in the form of soldiers coming back from war, British invasion music, pop culture, etc. In the 80s and 90s, America was much more of a culture exporter. We had big and brash styles, color palettes, and more. What better era to encapsulate American culture than the Radwood era? The name is, quite obviously, a tongue-in-cheek play on Goodwood. We definitely revere what they’ve done with that event, and hope to one day be as big as that one has become.”
So, bring your awesome 80s/90s motorcycle out (for free), meet other lunatics like yourself, and check out some cool period cars as well! If you just want to watch, spectator tickets are discounted by 50% on Friday, too. Even though it’s a tongue-in-cheek event that requires you to have a sense of humor, the machines can be serious. At previous shows they’ve had everything from wood-paneled K-cars and Renault Encores to Ferrari Testarossas and stuff you probably haven’t heard of before like the Autech Zagato Stelvio AZ1 – here are some images from RADwood Detroit back in September.
Click here to get tickets (remember, free motorcycle entry is only available on Black Friday) – bonus points if you dress up in period correct clothing!
