11-6-17 Update: Reader John G notes that this bike is still up for sale 10 months later, but now there’s a $4,000 discount. Find it for sale here on Craigslist.
Gwen Banquer is a motorcycle restorer who has made a name for himself with some interesting reproductions over the years. One of his creations is the “Banquer Superior”, a replica of the iconic Brough Superior SS100 built with a custom frame and Harley-Davidson 1,340cc Evo engine. Here’s one of the four total examples that were created. What do you think? Fun replica for a bike that’s impossible for most people to afford, or is this motorcycling heresy?
The custom frame was built by Milwaukee Iron, and the Evo motor was paired with a RevTech 5-speed transmission and a Paugcho springer front end customized to look like the castle forks originally found on the Brough. The original pricing was around $36,000, depending on options. For more on the Banquer Superior, check out this article on Real Classic.
This example has been featured in magazines and multiple shows. It looks like the seller is the former owner of Velocity Vintage Motorcycles, and he’s now liquidating an impressive collection of bikes (he owns the Ghezzi-Brian Furia featured by contributor Ted Clough a couple of days ago).
Find this Banquer for sale here on Craigslist for $23,000 in Mathews, Virginia.
