If Buddy Holly or Ariel motorcycles interest you, first start with this write-up from The Vintagent.
OK, you back? Well Paul D’Orleans, the man behind The Vintagent, has just noticed that this exact bike is about to go up for sale, and I figured that was worth sharing. As Paul writes in the above article, Buddy Holly found a dealership in the suburbs of Dallas that gave him and his band the “red carpet treatment.” Buddy responded by purchasing the extremely rare Ariel Cyclone, a 650cc high-compression variant of the Huntmaster. Just 21 were sold, and they put out 40 horsepower.
Buddy on the Cyclone:
Well, after Buddy Holly passed the Cyclone went to a new owner, and was later gifted as a birthday present to country megastar Waylon Jennings. Now plenty of the Waylon’s personal belongings are up for sale through Guernsey’s, and the Cyclone is one of those items.
This specific bike has engine number CNLF 4510 and chassis number CAPR 1069. If you’re considering bidding, check out this pdf with more details. The auction will occur October 3-4 at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona.
