CA Street Legal – 1985 Yamaha RZ500

Yamaha’s RZ500 (also known as the RD500LC) was a two-stroke rocket that was kept out of the US thanks to EPA regulations. Only built between ’84 and ’86, it’s now a desirable collector’s bike. Somehow, this example is legal in California – so you’ll be fine in any state, plus you’ve got the bonus “RZ500” license plate. This was sold as a road bike race rep of the Grand Prix racer YZR500. The 50 degree V-4 engine yielded over 80 horsepower through a 6-speed transmission. For more information, check out RZRD500.com.

This example has 13,000 miles and is generally original. Upgrades include a Keihin PWK28 carb and Turfrey chambers with carbon fiber silencers. All original parts are included with the sale. The seller lists out a great “Q&A” for his bike, where you’ll lear that everything seems to work well but there’s some minor corrosion on the forks/master cylinder. Apparently the plan was to restomod this bike with R6 parts but his/her situation has changed.
