This is the ugliest bike BMW has ever made, and I think you should buy it because nobody else wants to. A few months back, I got to ride my buddy Jared’s R1200ST for 100 miles and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It did everything well. Handled like a sportier RT, and in every other way is …
Custom Airhead – 1979 BMW R65
I’m really starting to enjoy these classic airhead builds. I knew that BMW was trying to change their demographic, but I never thought we’d see a day that people are customizing old airheads. My favorite part is that these builders are repurposing bikes that might not necessarily get a second chance at life. Case in point is this 1979 R65. …
1992 BMW K75
I have to first apologize to Abhi. I volunteered to write for Bike-urious back in December and after a few posts got so busy with work that I was unable to continue. He was kind enough to allow me to come back though. Thank you, Abhi. I noticed when I was doing this the first time, I seemed to have …
1950 Express
The ad clearly lists this as an Express brand, but all the information I could find lists them as Sachs brand Express model.
Miss Thriller – 1992 BMW R100R Custom
View Post1998 MZ Mastiff
7-26-16 Nearly a year later, David N has brought it to my attention that this Mastiff is still for sale! How is that possible? Find it for sale here on Craigslist with a $300 discount – now it’s just $2,900 in Mandarin (Jacksonville), Florida. For the money, this might just be one of my favorite posts on Bike-urious in the …
1953 BMW 51/3 with Sidecar
After WWII Germany was prohibited from making motorcycles until 1948. In 1948 through 1950 BMW produced what were essentially pre war motorcycles. In 1951 they introduced the 51/3, their first entirely new bike after the war.
Brooks Restoration – 1967 BMW R69S
Post Listing Update: This BMW did not meet reserve despite 42 bids up to $18,600. Restored by Kevin Brooks of Brooks Motor Works, this R69S is claimed to be near-mint with just 1,263 miles on the odometer. A triple-numbers matching motorcycle, this has been shown, ridden, and kept in excellent shape.
2008 BMW HP2 Megamoto
Post Listing Update: This Megamoto got up to $8,600 after 15 bids on eBay, but that wasn’t enough to meet reserve. Only 107 of the Megamotos made it into the US, and one of them lives 10 buildings down on my street. I can’t stop staring at it when I go by, which is why I’ve been drooling at this …
8.7 Gallon Tank – 1985 BMW K100RS
At first glance, I thought this was one of the ugliest tanks to ever grace a BMW motorcycle. Closer inspection leaves me with the sentiment that the shape of the Ray Randolph aluminum fuel tank isn’t all that bad, it’s just the badge placement that gives me pause. Still, this K100RS features a 8.7 gallon fuel tank that’ll get you …
2007 Walz Hardcore Chopper Pro Street
When I first saw this bike, I assumed it was built by someone in the US (probably Arizona). Turns out it’s actually the work of Marcus Walz, the man behind Walz Hardcore Cycles…based out of Hockenheim, Germany. Custom bike fans should be familiar with Marcus as he supposedly invented the “drag style” of motorcycle in the late 90s.
Rare in the US – 2002 MZ RT125
I’ve got to admit, I didn’t know these bikes ever officially made it to the US. This example isn’t perfect and it will need some work before it’s ready for the road again, but it’s rare, cool, and just $1,200.
Restored – 1968 BMW R60US
The “US” of R60US meant it was designed for the American market – changes included telescopic forks, a higher set of handlebars, and a lack of sidecar lugs. This example was restored in 2013 and has just 1,200 miles since the work was done.
1975 BMW R90/6 Cafe Racer
Alright, let’s get it out of the way first – yes, this has those stupid Firestone tires that are too common on cafe racer builds. But as long as you can get over that, you may find there’s a lot to like about this 4 year-old build.
1 Owner with Mods – 1972 BMW R75/5
This one-owner BMW has been modified by the original owner with an updated front fork and a giant Heinrich tank. The latter is definitely not a cheap mod, but is it heresy to say the tank looks ridiculous? It’s like a whale developed a tumor.
