After Germany lost World War II, Heinkel was banned from producing airplanes by the Allies. They decided to try their hand at personal transport with the production of vehicles like microcars, bicycles, and scooters like the Tourist you see here.
1958 Maico Taifun
After World War II, Maico built a series of motorcycles with their own engine designs – the biggest was the Taifun (Typhoon), a two-stroke twin that you could get with a 350cc or 400cc engine. It was unveiled to the world at the 1953 Frankfurt show.
Well Upgraded – 1989 BMW R100GS
Here’s a classic GS that’s received a nice set of boltons. It has 66,000 miles but the transmission was rebuilt and these engines are legendary for the amount of miles you can get out of them.
1977 BMW R100/7 Sidecar
Called “Cthulhu”, this sidecar rig was built by Perry’s Sidecars in 2008 and it’s been well upgraded and maintained since.
Rare Project – 1967 Lube-NSU Yak
I love featuring bikes that I’ve never heard of before, and this Lube-NSU Yak (what a name!) definitely counts. Have you heard anything about this? Do you know anything about it? Please share, because I’ve been struggling to find much online.
Krauser Heads – 1977 BMW R100S
From the factory, BMW’s R100S produced between 65-70 horsepower at the crank, depending on the year of manufacture. Thanks to Mikuni flat slide carbs, Krauser heads, and tuning by San Jose BMW back in the late 80s, this example puts down 74 horsepower at the rear wheel. 2007 BMW R1200S
Post Sale Update: This R1200S sold for the BIN price of $8,750. When it was released, the R1200S was BMW’s sportiest-ever take on the boxer engine. Whereas the R11S was almost a 50/50 balance of sport and touring, the R12S was marketed much more towards the former with slogans like “born in heaven, raised in hell”. When it was first …
No Reserve – 1993 BMW K1
Post Sale Update: After 60 bids on eBay, this K1 sold for $6,099. The BMW K1 was very impressive in many ways – especially the aerodynamic coefficient. With that said, lots of riders didn’t care for the styling or the the paint schemes. This example avoids the paint scheme issue because just 1 year into his/her ownership, the original owner …
Award Winning Restoration – 1955 BMW R50
This R50 was given a ‘ground-up restoration’ in 2008 and it has 3,500 miles on the odometer since the work was performed. The bike won Best in Class and Best in Show at the 2012 Dayton Concours d’Elegance and followed that up with an “Award of Excellence” at the same show the next year.
Ending Soon – 1967 BMW R69S
Post Listing Update: This R69S did not meet reserve despite 27 bids up to $12,600 on eBay. This R69S has the patina of over 50,000 miles of use and as the seller says, “it would be a shame to restore this bike.” It’s a motorcycle from Mike Wolfe (you may remember that name from the TV show American Pickers).
Airhead Dual Sport – BMW R75/6 Custom
It’s a little bit of an ugly duckling, but this slash 6 has been turned into a competent pavement-indifferent runabout.
