Did Leno’s recent sidecar video inspire you to try out three wheels…but you’d rather stay on the street instead of the track? This Kawasaki Concours is probably as fast as you can get in the world of three wheeled street bikes if you want to get yourself and some extra passengers or cargo somewhere quickly!
1953 BMW 51/3 with Sidecar
After WWII Germany was prohibited from making motorcycles until 1948. In 1948 through 1950 BMW produced what were essentially pre war motorcycles. In 1951 they introduced the 51/3, their first entirely new bike after the war.
2009 Honda Ruckus with Keltic Sidecar
Equipped with a Keltic sidecar, this Ruckus has probably got to be one of the slowest Hondas around. Still, for around town fun without a license, this might be just the ticket.
1977 BMW R100/7 Sidecar
Called “Cthulhu”, this sidecar rig was built by Perry’s Sidecars in 2008 and it’s been well upgraded and maintained since.
Ending Soon – 1964 Harley-Davidson Topper with Sidecar
Post-Sale Update: This Topper hack sold for $7,000 after 3 bids on eBay. In its long history, Harley-Davidson has only created one scooter. As you might guess, it was not a commercial success. Harley offered to rare factory options that could be mounted on the side – either a utility box or an adorable sidecar. This restored Topper has one …
Gigantic Custom Diesel Trike
I don’t really understand why, but it looks like the story of Emile Leray is making the rounds online again because I’ve been emailed about it a bunch of times in the past two days. It’s been 20 years since he escaped the desert with his hacked up motorcycle and four years since the last time this story got attention …
TR6 Trike – 1963 Triumph Bonneville
Post-Listing Update: This TR6 trike got no interest at the BIN of $15,000. Creating trikes out of motorcycles is not uncommon, but I never thought I’d see one based on a classic Bonnie!
Green Dream – 1953 BMW R51/3 BMW with Steib Sidecar
Post-Sale Update: After 16 bids on eBay, this BMW/Steib hack sold for $16,000. Built over four years, the R51/3 was introduced in 1951. It was one of the first bikes BMW released after they were allowed to start creating motorcycles post WWII, so they took one of their pre-war designs and evolved it to prevent having to start from scratch.
Rare Trike – 1983 Trihawk 304
Designed by Lou Richards, the Trihawk 304 (3 wheels, 4 cylinders) was an interesting trike that was capable of cornering forces similar to a Lamborghini Countach (.91G) thanks to the wide front wheelbase and the low center of gravity. Introduced in 1982, the company was able to produce 96 units before Harley-Davidson bought them out in 1985 and stopped production.
1956 Ariel Square Four with Garrard Sidecar
View PostIn Canada – Homebrew 3 Wheeler Build
Sites like BikeEXIF are constantly saying that the Honda CX650 has become a new darling of the custom motorcycle world. Here’s something a little bit different using thatsame powerplant. Built with 136 ft of 1 inch square tubing and 3 sheets of 6061T6 aircraft alloy, this cool build is reminiscent of a Morgan 3 Wheeler.
Military Trike – 1960 Fabrique Nationale AS 24
We go from not featuring a FN in a few months to having two within a few days. Somehow, this AS 24 is even cooler than the vintage FN single featured earlier this week, thanks ot the interesting design and the military functionality.
1939 Harley-Davidson Big Twin Sidecar
The seller calls this a U/ULH because the motor is from a U but it has ULH barrels that were bored .20 over. Either way, he’s had the three wheeled rig since 1969 and it’s claimed to run and handle perfectly after a ‘complete refurbishment’ 5 years ago. Hope you like red!
Sidecar Racer in Belgium – 1947 Moto Guzzi Dondolino
Built for privateers, the Dondolino (weirdly, this is Italian for ‘rocking chair’) featured a 498cc OHV single that produced 33 horsepower, good for a top speed of 110 miles per hour. Dry weight was a paltry 282 pounds. The Dondolino was actually introduced the previous year, and it immediately won the Swiss Grand Prix and Spanish Grand Prix, as well …
3 Wheeled Adventurer – 2004 Suzuki DL650 with Dauntless Sidecar
The Suzuki DL650 (also known as the V-Strom 650, or even the Wee-Strom because it’s the smaller of the two models) was introduced in 2004, taking a modified V-Twin engine from the SV650 and surrounding it in an adventure-touring package. This first year example adds some versatility (at the expense of width) with a Dauntless M72D sidecar rig.
