It looks like a KLR…but take a second look at that motor. Are you as confused as I am?
1974 Dalesman 125 Scout
Dalesman was an English motorcycle manufacturer that started by utilizing Puch motors. They made three versions: trials, motocross, and enduro. Production was based out of Yorkshire between 1968 and 1974, making this Enduro (also branded as the Scout) bike one of the last off the line.
Velvety Smooth – 1993 BMW R100GS
6-4-17 Update: Yes, I just featured this bike yesterday. But, the fine folks at Aerostich have noticed my offhand comment and will give a 20% discount off any of their gear (in any color, you don’t have to get hi-viz) to the person that buys this bike. But if you do want to go color matching, you can go hi-viz …
Custom Scrambler – 1999 Ducati Monster 750
This custom 1999 Monster 750 is by far one of the coolest looking Ducati’s you can get for under $3,500. Although this one-off bike has undergone a major transformation with its more modern Scrambler meets Mad Max style, you can still clearly identify this two-wheeler’s Monster roots.
Nice Price – 2006 Aprilia Caponord
Aprilia’s response to the surge in popularity of adventure bikes was the Caponord, also known as the ETV1000. Compared to the competition, it’s happiest on pavement but it won’t stop you from exploring fire roads that you may encounter along the way. This example is on offer for less than three grand, which is a cheap way of entering the …
2,386 Miles – 1985 Honda XL600R
Honda’s XL600R was a popular dual-sport for a wide variety of riders in the 80s – Dirt Rider magazine said it was the best in the dirt of the open class dual purpose bikes (like the Kawasaki KL600 or Yamaha XT600). You wouldn’t know that from this example, which has apparently spent all of its life on the street. The …
Rare Dual Sport – 1995 Honda Transalp XL400V
View PostCustom Adventurer – 1981 BMW R80GS
Thanks to a slight bump in power (67-70 horsepower) and a decrease in weight (dry weight of 369 pounds), the seller calls this a Hot Rod R80GS. Would you ride it?
Set Up For Street – 1969 Rickman Metisse MkIV
Post Sale Update: This streetable Metisee sold for $5,200 after 27 bids on eBay. The seller has had this bike since 1985 – he bought it because he needed “a fast, nimble ride to navigate the congested Silicon Valley traffic” he dealt with on his commute. He rebuilt it upon acquisition and rode it just about daily for four years, …
108k Mile LC8 Package – KTM 950SE and 950SM
Occasional contributor and commenter Walter B needs to make room in his garage for a new bike, so he’s letting go of a 2006 KTM 950SM and a 2007 950SE. First, the Super Moto. He’s the original owner and there’s a build thread on ADVRider if you want to get more details. Before Walter acquired the SE, he took this …
1967 Yamaha Big Bear 305 Scrambler
Yamaha named this motorcycle after the Big Bear race, though they never actually won it themselves. That didn’t stop them from slapping the alliterative name onto a range of scramblers displacing 125, 250c, and 350ccs. I don’t have any personal experience with the Big Bear, so I’ll leave you with this critical quote from Matt Cuddy of Superhunky, who said …
950 Miles – 1968 Kawasaki C2TR
Introduced in 1964, the C2TR was a 120cc trail bike with enough equipment to be street legal if the rider desired. It was also known as the RoadRunner, but this example hasn’t lived up to its name yet as it has just 950 miles on the odometer.
1969 BSA 441 Victor
We have featured several BSA Victors over the years here. They are always a crowd favorite, and could serve as the poster-boy for the original “dual-sport” concept – take a race bike, add lights, a mirror and pretty it up a bit, and go!
Silver Surfer – 1992 Honda NX650
Another day, another NX650 custom! Yesterday I featured the “Growler”, a minimalist take on Honda’s dual-sport that was slightly more street-oriented than the XR650. Today we’ve got the “Silver Surfer”, built by Jeffrey Wardenaar at Motogadgets.
Growler – 1988 Honda NX650 Custom
Some of my favorite customs nowadays are based on the Honda NX650 (known outside of the US as the Dominator). While my absolute favorite Dommie is this beauty by Andrew Greenland, I’m also enjoying this build called “Growler” by Neuga out of Budapest, Hungary.
