Post Sale Update: this Police Harley sold for $20,100 after 60 bids on eBay…but the winner did you pay. It was then relisted and actually sold for $18,600 after 43 bids in San Diego, California.
Restored approximately 7 years ago, this Police Panhead got a rebuilt motor and repainted bodywork.
’65 was an interesting year for H-D, as it was the last year of a Panhead motor but the first year of an electric starter and 12V system. But obviously what’s most interesting here is that this bike started life in police service, specifically out of the Eureka, CA office of the California Highway Patrol.
The seller recently acquired it from the second owner, who himself purchased it at a police auction. The current owner rebuilt the carb with new gaskets and installed a new battery so this bike is running again – though the seller notes that “the new owner may want to fine tune the carb and go through the bike before any extensive use.” It’s currently equipped with a S&S Super E carb, but the original Linkert is included.
