Post Listing Update: This R60/2 did not meet reserve despite 33 bids up to $7,700.
This probably should be called a R80/2, as it combines the classic style of a /2 with the “modern” features of a /6 and /7 drivetrain – 12V electrics with an electric starter, 5-speed transmission, and of course, more oomph.
Purists can cry, but this is a great way to enjoy earlier styling with some conveniences that make the bike easier to ride and even to own. There’s even /5 parts in this bike (VIN: 1817543), specifically the headlight bucket with the integrated speedometer and tachometer. Other features include a Brown side stand, Sun aluminum wheels, rebuilt carbs, EZ Pull clutch assembly from Bench Mark Works, Heidenau K34 tires, Magura grips, Pagusa solo seat, /7 handlebar (/2 US and /2 Euro bars included), Albert headlight mirrors, and more. The motor is from a ’75 R90/6 but it has cylinders, rings, and pistons from a R80/7 so the displacement is nominally 800cc. As a cosmetic nod to the /2 motor, the cylinders were painted black.
This example is therefore quite a mutt – what do you think of the final result? The seller states that everything works and the sale includes receipts for all parts purchased in the last three years. There’s some understandable cosmetic wear with “several small paint chips” and a dent on the rear fender, but the seller has “taken this bike on several multi day country and mountain rides”. If you’d like to continue that tradition, find this custom BMW for sale in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada with an opening bid of $1,000 and the reserve not yet met
