Everyone knows (and pretty much loves) the Norton Commando 850 Mk. 3 – but here’s one that has a.) my favorite paint scheme and b.) a little bit of fame, thanks to the fact that it was the featured bike on the cover of the Clymer Commando repair guide:
Estimates suggest that about 200 of these limited edition liveries were produced – the mechanicals were pretty much the same from a Mk. 3 Commando. This means you got 50 horsepower, 435 pound dry weight, and a top speed of about 115.
This specific Norton Commando 850 Mk. 3 (VIN: 850F126735) has recently enjoyed a full restoration by Phil Radford of Fair Spares America. It has 329 miles since the build, and it looks fantastic in the John Player color scheme – maybe it’s ready to be the cover girl of something new.
