Post-Listing Update: This crazy Commando got no action on eBay.
Is this the coolest Norton Commando I’ve ever seen? Maybe. Maybe not. But it sure is one of the most unique. This Commando has a beautiful nickel finish Trackmaster oil-in-frame to turn it into a desert racer that will make you stand out.
At first I didn’t like the way this bike looked, but it’s grown on me. The frame is attached to a Trackmaster swingarm that allows for dual shock positions. The engine is a 750cc Commando unit that’s been balanced and blueprinted, and it’s hooked up to a Norton 4-speed transmission. Other goodies include a custom skid plate made out of aluminum, Steve Simons forks and triples, Curnutt long travel shocks, 40mm Dell’orto carb…obviously there’s been plenty of work to convert a Commando into this.
The builder estimates that he put in over $40k over the years of this build. It’s claimed to be the only Trackmaster MX frame ever built for a Commando, as all their other frames were flat-trackers. There are plenty of one-off parts that would be hard to find – it would be very difficult to replicate this bike nowadays. The seller says that this “British heavyweight” has been turned into a “lightweight fighting machine”. I’d love to know exactly how many pounds were chopped off from the original bike…
