A couple of years ago, I featured an Ecorider Hippo Petrol – and I had to specify petrol as the Ecorider was one of the very few production motorcycles that had an available diesel engine. Well, here’s the diesel-powered variant.
These were made in Scotland, and while Ecorider had a US distributor this is only the second one I’ve ever seen in the country. An interesting feature is the 11″ wide tires that can roll with just 2 psi, meaning they actually put less pressure on the ground (and therefore do less damage in the wilderness) than human feet. Fun options included a few trailers and a rifle holder. Engine options were this Hatz 230cc diesel or a Kohler 175cc petrol motor. Unfortunately, Ecorider went into liquidation in 2009.
The seller of this example frustratingly has nothing to say about it, though the “mileage” field on eBay says 300 miles. With the lack of detail and the high opening bid (twice as much as the other Ecorider I featured) I don’t think this bike is going to sell any time soon, but it’s still an oddball that had to be shared!
Find this Ecorider for sale in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho with an unmet opening bid of $6,500 here on eBay.
