Dover White – 1964 BMW R27

When I think of classic BMW’s, I inevitably think of black paint and boxer engines. So here’s a Dover White single-cylinder for you. The R27 was an evolution of the R26, gaining rubber engine mounts and a bump in power to 18hp. This was the last shaftie single BMW ever made. 15,364 were sold, but according to the seller, just 50 of them were in Dover White. This bike was imported to Butler & Smith in New York in December of 1964. The seller tells a story that Michael Bondy, the man in charge of Butler & Smith, sent BMW a paint sample of Dover White from the ’42 Packard he was driving at the time. He asked for BMW to duplicate it, and BMW sent him 50 models. That’s the story – whether or not you believe is a different matter. Either way, this paint scheme is rare, and in the case of this bike, it’s still original. It has just 2 owners and 9,000 miles, and is now mechanically sound. It is numbers matching and comes with low Euro handlebars, Denfield dual seats, and more. Find this BMW R27 for sale here on Craigslist in Chicago, Illinois for $9,999
