One of the most replicated motorcycles of all time (I’ve even featured a well done replica for sale before), the Captain America from Easy Rider is an icon for all kinds of riders. One month from now, however, the real thing is coming up for sale at auction, where the estimated sale price is…are you sitting down? $1-1.2 million.
Easy Rider had three stars – Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, and the Captain America – which was of course “destroyed” in the final scene. Based on a early 50s Harley Davidson Hydra-Glide, four bikes (two Captain Americas, two Billy bikes) were created for filming. The three that survived were unfortunately stolen, fates unknown. The destroyed bike was restored and eventually sold at auction in 2001. The current seller (who formerly co-owned a motorcycle-themed restaurant with Dennis Hopper) bought it last year, but now it’s your chance. For more on the motorcycle, check out this write-up from the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
The auction is called “Hollywood Auction 65” and is being run by Profiles in History. The bike goes up for sale on October 18th.
