Post Sale Update: This Panhead sold for $21,077.77 after 26 bids on eBay.
1965 marked the last year of the Panhead motor and the first year of the Electra Glide (electric start). It was also the year that this beautiful FLH was built, which means it is one of just 6,900 examples. This bike still looks great thanks to a 35 year nap, but the seller has brought it back to life and put a few miles on it himself to make sure it runs as good as it looks.
The ’65 FLH got a 5 gallon fuel tank called the “Turnpike”, and the motor produced 60 horsepower thanks to a compression ratio of 8:1. As the first year of the Electra Glide, this bike (VIN: 65FLH1088) has some additional value to collectors and it doesn’t hurt that it’s also got the factory windscreen and luggage. The seller rebuilt the master cylinder, flushed the brake lines, rebuilt the generator, and installed a new regulator. Everything is said to work and the since the seller made the bike road worthy again he’s put 160 miles on it. The sale includes the original (rebuilt) Linkert carb but this bike currently has a 38mm Mikuni carb installed. The tank was repainted in the 80s but the seller believes the rest of the paint is original. For an album of 28 photos, check out the seller’s Flickr album.
