In the 60s, the US was clamoring for desert racers, and fans of the BSA Lightning were hoping for a stripped down version from the British firm. Enter the BSA Hornet, a 650cc stripper-spec without lighting.
Interestingly, the bike had a West Coast model and a East Coast model, which differed in the exhaust style. The West Coast got a TT-style low exhaust, while the East Coast got a scrambler style high pipe. This was built to be a production racer that would compete with the likes of Harley’s XR750, a strong off-road bike that would hopefully drive sales of the street variant.
This specific BSA Hornet (VIN: A65HA9706Y) is a numbers matching example of the West Coast model. It’s mostly original and was even previously registered for street use.
