Post Listing Update: Despite 41 bids up to $3,100 on eBay, this /6 did not meet reserve.
Between 1974 and 1976, BMW offered the “slash 6” generation of the boxer twin. The smallest was the R60/6, with a 599cc motor that produced 40 horsepower and 36 pound-feet of torque. That might not make it the most suitable option for a full tourer, but that hasn’t stopped a previous owner of this motorcycle, who equipped this with panniers, a large front fairing, and an odd wooden rear platform.
This example (VIN: 4900027) was recently acquired at an estate auction, and the new seller says the bike probably was ‘lightly restored’ at one point as the paint has been redone. Based on the VIN, this is probably one of the first R60/6 bikes imported to the US. The seller added an aftermarket seat and headers, cleaned the carbs, replaced the oil, and threw on new tires. The bike is said to work well once warmed up and the main flaw seems to be at the tach needle is missing. Other minor issues include a small ding in the tank and that the Krauser bags show some wear and tear.
