Post-Sale Update: This Husky sold for $8,400 after 14 bids on eBay.
Gavin Trippe was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in ’05 thanks to his many contributions to the sport – he founded Motor Cycle Weekly, he founded the Carlsbad USGP, and he invented supermoto racing, among many other things. In 2007, he decided to create a new race class in the US called Super Single, based on 450cc MX bikes that were converted into road racers. By the time it was established, the class had been renamed to Formula 450 (F450), and the intent was to make entry level racing much cheaper. To help promote his class, Gavin partnered with a few companies to develop some examples of what the F450 bikes could be like – here’s a Husky based racer that’s never touched a race track.
Starting with a limited edition (just 50 were built) SM450RR – which the seller claims was the only one brought to the US – Gavin, Troy Lee Designs, and Roland Sands Designs built an impressive bike with Arrow pipes, Excel rims, Brembo brakes, bodywork by Catalyst, 50mm Marzocchi forks, Sachs shock, and plenty more. Long story short, the bike weighs 248 pounds dry and is claimed to put out approximately 65 horsepower. The seller has started the bike regularly but it’s never had track time Note that it does not have a title,
The seller says this bike cost $28,000 to build, but this no reserve auction is only at $6,000 with one bid in Dania, Florida
