11-23-15 Update: This polarizing bike is back as it did not meet reserve last time. Find it with bidding up to $20,300 and the reserve not yet met
Target Design was formed back in 1979 after 3 ex-BMW stylists (including the legendary Hans Muth) decided to split off and try things on their own. They almost immediately made a name for themselves by winning a competition from German magazine Motorrad about what motorcycles would look like in the future. Their winning design (called the ED-1, ED stood for European Design) was based on a MV Agusta:
If the design looks vaguely familiar to you, it might be because Suzuki liked what they saw and they brought on Target Design to evolve their idea for production – it became the incredible Suzuki Katana:
Fast forward to 2008, when German classic bike dealer Motorrad Fuchs decided to turn the ED1 prototype into a production model. Last October they revealed a prototype at the Padova Auto D’Epoca, and though it seems like they were planning 5 examples of the model, I’ve only been able to identify one other (featured here in Australia). This bike is apparently the one revealed at Padova – it has German registration and is ready to ride.
The dealership in Australia wanted nearly $150k for their example, so I’m curious to see what this one goes for (assuming it makes reserve) Find this Target Design MV Agusta for sale in Osnabruck, Germany with bidding up to $17,600 and the reserve not yet met
