Endurance racing is an incredibly challenging endeavor, a friend of mine who’s competed compares the feeling of completing an event to being beaten up and hungover combined with pure joy. Both the pilots and their machine are tough as nails and pushed to near their breaking point. Endurance racers have to withstand hours of being redlined without any cooldown period and just generally suffer prolonged abuse. As you’d expect these machines are modified handle the tall order that is endurance racing and this 1984 BMW K100 is no exception.
Surprisingly, this 35-year-old German racer was built only last season and has gone on to finish every BHR (British Historic Racing) endurance event it has competed in. The BMW’s low-mileage engine has been toughened-up with K1100 throttle bodies and Tomaselli throttle assembly but it’s the K100’s brakes and suspension upgrades that make it a bonafide racer.
A fork and steering damper from a Yamaha R6 were swapped in along with a RAM adjustable rear shock in back that’s been fitted with a K1200 rear wheel, all sitting on Pirelli Supercorsa SC1’s. The seller says this K100 sports what he calls a “Brembo type front master cylinder” which has been married to steel braided lines. Other small but worthwhile upgrades on this endurance machine include a lightweight battery, BSK rearsets and a Scitsu rev counter.
The seller says he’s invested a substantial amount of money to get this machine to where it currently is, he also points out that it’s “compatible with the European endurance series.” While a few more upgrades certainly wouldn’t hurt the performance of this machine, this is somewhat of a steal at the seller’s asking price and is a great opportunity to get into endurance racing, or just to own a bad-ass two-wheeled Beemer.
You can find this 1984 BMW K100 Endurance Racer for sale here on RaceBikeMart in Northern Ireland with a price of £3,095 or $4,000 US.
