Arturo Magni was brought on by MV Agusta’s racing department in 1950, and he was an instrumental part of their 75 World Championships. While he’d also go on to play a big role at Moto Guzzi, the Magni name is most closely associated with MV thanks to bikes like the 861. It was the first bike Magni built with his sons once they started a company to build factory specials. The 861 started as a 750S and then was bored out to a displacement that you could probably guess.
Those 861cc were good for about 95 horsepower, and the weight of each bike varied depending on the level of build that a customer requested. I’ve seen numbers quoted between 400 and 440 pounds. For more on this partnership between Magni and MV Agusta, check out this article on Motorcycle Classics – they call it “the bike MV Agusta should have built.”
This example has quite a history of owners, having spent some time in the collection of Nick Mason (Pink Floyd’s drummer) and Klass Zwart (the founder of Ascari automobiles and the private race track in Spain). It has just under 22,000 miles on the odometer and is said to be in “fine running order” after a recent service.
