Post Sale Update: This XLX-61 sold for $4,000 after 37 bids on eBay.
The Harley-Davidson XLX-61 Sportster was built between 1983 and 1985 – here’s an example from the last year that’s been turned into a Evel Knievel tribute.
The XLX-61 was the entry level 1,000cc Sportster. The stock bike was equipped with no frills in two colorways: black with a black exhaust and handlebars or red with chrome exhaust and pipes. With this custom, the idea was to build something that Evel would have ridden. Do you think the builder succeeded? This bike (VIN: 1hd1cch18fy114203) is said to run and ride with just a few miles since the work was performed. It has spent most of its time on display in a private collection. The seller recently ran it after putting in a new batter and fresh gas/oil. Note that this bike sold in Mecum’s Chicago auction this June for $3,750.
