Over on the auction site we’ve got something quite special – a Yamaha R7 that was campaigned in British Super Bike Rob Mac Racing with Team Virgin Mobile Yamaha. Even better, it was ridden by my buddy Jamie Robinson of MotoGeo!
One of our mechanics has extensive R7 experience, and he pointed out some of the high-end components for us on this customer superbike-spec racer, including: Brembo monobloc calipers and rotors, Ohlins suspension/steering damper, Akrapovic full titanium exhaust with carbon fiber muffler, Marchesini forged magnesium 16.5″ wheels, KLS quickshifter, and the extra-trick Suter dry clutch conversion.
A MCN profile suggests that this bike cost £100,000 (approximately $140,000 at the time), made 163 horsepower/75 lb-ft of torque, weighed 356 pounds, and was capable of 190 miles per hour. When I was researching this bike, it seemed that it might have been Jamie’s bike. So I asked him to come by our shop and he believes (with “99%” certainty) that this was the bike he raced. He was also kind enough to let me grab this photo:
