Post-Listing Update: This XLA did not sell at the BIN price of $42,500.
Harley produced thousands of WLA models for the US Government in WWII, but it wasn’t until ’57 that the feds would tap Harley again. This time, they wanted a patrol bike, and the company responded with the Harley-Davidson Sportster XLA. Just 418 were ever built, and Harley would never make another V-Twin bike for the military again. Loyal readers will remember that they sold the MT500, but that was pretty much someone else’s bike built that HD bought the rights to. This specific Sportster XLA has just 7,004 miles and even has the original Goodyear tires! It’s being offered by an owner of 25 years, who has put just 75 miles on it. As the seller notes, this is probably destined for a museum, but maybe it’ll find a lucky owner who gets it back on the road.
