7-21-16 Update: This nifty KB3 is back up for sale with a lower BIN. Find it with bidding up to $10,700
Post Listing Update: Despite 27 bids on eBay up to $12,351, this KB3 did not meet reserve.
As if a Bimota KB3 wasn’t rare enough, this example has been impressively upgraded and spent some time under the stewardship of Nick Ienatsch – lead instructor at Freddie Spencer and the Yamaha Champions riding schools, as well as author and editor for a variety of motorcycle mags. This specific bike was featured in the September 1992 issue of Motorcyclist Magazine and it is not for the faint of heart.
8 years prior, Motorcyclists had the following to say about the “base” KB3: “It stops harder, corners better than any street bike we have tried and beyond any doubt the quickest motorcycle we have ridden over a fast bumpy and twisty road…Bimota’s KB3 is one of the truly great machines of our time – innovative, inspiring, magnificent in its construction and wholly successful in its pursuit of uncompromised speed.” This bike got PM wheels and brakes, Works Performance custom shock, Gatlin Racing 1,260cc engine good for almost 140 horsepower, custom exhaust with Supertrapp, a PMF hydraulic clutch, and a whole lot more.
This bike (VIN: SB400107 – the seller notes that the SB4 and KB3 used the same frame) was serviced 500 miles ago and it’s in generally good shape. There’s some cosmetic issues and the turn signals don’t work, but who cares? As detailed in the magazine story, this bike was crashed and then brought back to life, and the seller says there’s no speedo or odometer but it is street legal (at least in Arizona). To help with comfort, the seller used to install Honda CBX bars and a chin fairing, which are included though the original items are on right now.
