Post Listing Update: In those three days, nothing happened. Bidding stalled at $40,100 and the reserve was not met.
6-27-17 Update: A year and a half later, this former GP bike is back up for sale. There’s three days left on the bidding but it’s already near where the action stopped last time, so hopefully this auction has a better shot of meeting reserve. Find it with bidding up to $40,100 and the reserve not yet met
Post-Listing Update: After 15 bids, this RGB500 got up to $44,655.55, but that wasn’t enough to meet reserve.
Well, these don’t get offered every day. Here’s an ex-factory 500cc GP racer – the legendary Gamma RGB500 as campaigned by Heron Suzuki.
These were very successful racers, thanks to the full floater rear suspension, anti-dive forks, 120 horsepower engine, magnesium Mikuni carbs, 6.9 gallon tank, dry weight of 292 pounds, and a top speed of about 170 miles per hour.
This bike (VIN: RGB500-100042) is claimed to be the real deal – it’s chassis number 42 and motor number 49. The seller says it’s unrestored but it’s in excellent condition, as if it just rolled off the track. Since it was last raced (history not given), the bike has been in a Japanese museum. I guess this would be an easy way to kick some ass in vintage racing!
