Spec racing typically yields some of the most closest finishes on race tracks, and manufacturers will occasionally encourage these classes by building models designed for the task. KTM and MotoAmerica have partnered to create a RC Cup of spec racing in the hopes that it will help grow the next wave of US talent to be seen in MotoGP. Most bikes were sold to race teams, but a few examples were snagged by members of the public who wanted a dedicated track toy. That’s the case here, with a bike the seller has had from new. He’s just had a daughter, so he’s taking a temporary break from riding.
The spec bike takes the already-competent RC390 and makes almost everything better – weight is down to 304 pounds, the brakes are bigger, the solo seat is shaped for track duties, it has a fiberglass bellypan, adjustable rearsets, and a larger windscreen to cut through the air better. With that said, the powerband has been retuned for a bump in the midrange and peak power drops from ~41 to 38. For more on the RC Cup, check out the official KTM site. Or for a less-biased look, check out this review from Ari Henning at Motorcyclist – he notes that it’s the first turnkey racebike since the Moriwaki MD250H.
This example has been used for 11 track days, and the seller estimates that mileage is at approximately 1,650. He’s kept a maintenance log from the very beginning that includes highlights of a valve job, Dave Moss/Superplush suspension setup, and more. In addition, it has graphics from the ’16 bikes, a removed throttle limiter that the seller says restores full peak power, DynoJet PCV and quickshifter, Driven Halo clipons, and more. The seller has a photo album here if you want more pictures.
