KTM has always built some great dirt and enduro bikes. Their top-of-the-line Adventure Series go head-to-head with BMW GS’s. Their early street bikes were mainly supermoto-type derivatives of the mid-displacement dirt bikes. Think KTM 690 Supermoto. The RC8 was their first go at the pure Superbike market. First available in the US as a 2009 model, it was an 1,148cc twin, very close on spec to the current Ducati 1098, at 151HP. Components were top-shelf WP shocks and forks, Brembo brakes. Reviews at the time were generally favorable. Excellent handling and huge mid-range torque were pluses, but a delicate throttle hand was required with the sensitive fueling. This was back when traction control was your right hand….
As with all recent KTM’s, the origami styling is subjective – Love it or hate it, you’d best not be the shy type. They came in white, black and orange. This 2009 model looks to be very much a new bike, in the pure Orange livery with only 1,900 miles. Price might be a bit high at $9,500, but I’m sure that is a starting point.
More information, but not many pictures are available in the listing here on Craigslist in Marietta, Georgia. Actually I would be tempted just to go hang out with the seller, as it looks like he has a very nice man-cave garage…
