Post Listing Update: This Firefighter Edition was relisted several times on eBay, but it never met reserve with 30 bids up to $8,500.
After September 11th, Harley-Davidson released special editions of three of their models to honor firefighters and peacekeepers who helped during the attacks. This is one of the Firefighter Editions of the Electra Glide Classic. It started with a donation Harley made of 37 police bikes to the Port Authority Police Department, after which firefighters expressed their interest in something similar. The models could be ordered through a dealer but buyers had to have official firefighter identification to make the purchase.
Changes were cosmetic only – Scarlet Red paint, gold pinstripes, and depending on the model, cast wheels. They also got a special plaque with stated “Harley-Davidson Firefighter Special Edition”. The model was popular enough that HD kept production going – as Jon Syverson (manager of worldwide police and fleet sales for HD at the time) said, “it was a delicate balance between honoring our heroes and commerce.”
This example (VIN: 1HD1DGV1X2Y662755) has 18,840 miles and it’s being offered by the original owner. It’s said to be mint with a few upgrades – Samson dual exhaust, Screamin’ Eagle pushrods and air cleaner, Dyno Jet carb kit, Andrews 21-G cams, Mustang seat with backrest, upgraded speakers, Hi-way pegs, braided steel brake lines, and more. It’s also been lowered 1″ in the front and rear.
