A few years before WWII erupted, airplane parts maker Breene-Taylor Engineering designed and marketed a 1.4 HP four-stroke motor and fuel tank kit which a customer would mount on his or her bicycle frame, creating a usable motorbike. They christened the product “Whizzer” and sold a few thousand kits for $54.95. After the war the company grew quickly and in 1948 released their first complete motorbike, the Pacemaker, priced at $199.50. Improvements and additional models followed till the whole concept faded and production stopped in 1965. A later resurgent company produced modernized Whizzers from 1997-2009. Our subject is a first-year Pacemaker which is an older restoration with little use since. It has desirable upgrades and looks to be an accurate and nicely done example, suitable for display or a stylish and hip city bike.
