Also known as the Baby V-Max, the Yamaha Fazer FZX700 was quite a revelation when it was released – the styling was distinctive and it was quicker than riders expected. No one complained about the speed, though not everyone loved the looks, and the bike didn’t sell tremendously well. Thanks to a large fairing, the styling of this example is dramatically changed – but is it for the better?
Other markets got a 750cc engine, but the US got a 698cc Fazer due to the import tariff the States was enforcing at the time. The detuned engine produced 85 horsepower, enough to get the 440 pound bike up to an impressive 137 miles per hour. A period review from Cycle World, who said that the bike’s “performance is above reproach.”
The seller of this example is a bit of a Fazer fan – he’s owned 6 – and says that this specific FZX came from overseas, which for some reason is how he explains the gigantic fairing that I cannot identify.
