Post Listing Update: This Z1 was pulled off of eBay, final sale price unknown.
Before Honda released the instant classic CB750, Kawasaki was also working on a a four-cylinder, 750cc sportbike – except Kawi thought it was going to be first to market. They were thus shocked when Honda released the CB750, forcing them to go back to the drawing board until they could bump up displacement to 903cc. When Kawi was developing the Z1, the project was known internally by the code name “New York Steak”.
This Z1 (VIN: Z1F-45309) might as well be back from 40+ years ago because it’s been fully restored to an impressive standard. The seller is a shop that specializes in vintage Japanese bikes and they claim this is “100% original down to every nut, bolt, and washer.” With that said, the bike has been upgraded with a dual disc kit and oil cooler, both of which were Kawi dealer options available in 1974.
