Post Listing Update: This RMX125 did not get any interest at the opening bid of $7,999.
Rupp occasionally gets the short end of the stick in public opinion – some people considered the company to be one of the many run-of-the-mill ventures that churned out cheap minibikes in the 70s. But that’s not fair. Rupp was ahead of the game in many ways with the RMX 125, including having ALCOA build aluminum hubs and triple clamps, and featuring other high spce components like Akront rims, Girling shocks, Magura controls, and Showa forks.
This isn’t to say Rupp didn’t pop out a few cheap minibikes as well, but the RMX 125 was a legitimate MXer that was competitive with the major Japanese bikes of the era. It’s just very rare. For more information on the RMX, check out this profile from the Jones MX Collection. This example has been completely restored and been signed by the founder of Rupp himself. Since the restoration, the bike has never had gas or oil in it. It’s not cheap, but this is an excellent example of a rare MX bike.
