Here’s something for you to ponder over the weekend…I just got an email from a local motorcycle club about the Smoky Mountain 450, a 3 day dual sport ride in some beautiful areas of the Smoky Mountains. After hearing about the ride, I thought it’d be something you’d be interested in reading about – plus it comes with Bike-urious’ first-ever giveaway!
Understand that this isn’t a specific ride done on a given day – rather it’s a 3 day tour that you can enjoy on your own schedule. It’s a well-planned route with plenty of elevation changes, water crossings, the Tail of the Dragon, and even bypass sections if you need to make up time. My favorite part? You won’t get GPS routes, just a package of maps. In the words of the organizer, “We like maps and dead reckoning. We also think GPS takes some of the fun out of the adventure.”
If (like me) you’re nowhere near NC, you might be wondering how you could go out and enjoy this. Well, you’ll want to talk to Dan Dickie over at GSMmotoRent. As you might expect, they offer motorcycle rentals specifically for people who want to enjoy the Great Smoky Mountains, but they’ve also put together a package for those of you that are interested in riding the SM450.
Check out this link for more information, including an itinerary and pricing.
With all that said, Dan has been kind enough to offer a Bike-urious reader a gift certificate good for one day of rental of one of GSMmotoRent’s dual-sport bikes! If you’re interested in a chance at winning, leave a comment below with which bike from their fleet you’d want to use for the SM450, and I’ll enter you into a random drawing. I will only consider people who comment by 11:59pm on Tuesday, August 5th.
