The NSR 250R was sold as road-legal version of Honda’s 250 race bike, the RS250R, although in reality it shared no mechanical parts, just the overall image. It was, however a potent little pocket-rocket, powered by a liquid-cooled, reed valve inducted 249cc 90° V-twin two stroke engine working a six-speed transmission. Published specs put it at 288 pounds dry weight.
The NSR was produced in several versions over a 12-year run from 1987-1999. This particular bike is a 1989, MC-18 model. To be honest, I do not know all the spec changes over the years, just that later ones had dry clutches vs wet, as well as some suspension changes to forks and shocks as they evolved.
These bikes were never imported officially to the US, but over the years enterprising buyers have brought them over and had them registered. That is the case here, as the seller claims this bike has a Georgia title.
This bike does appear to be in excellent condition. With new tires and a new bottom end, it should be ready to go and a blast to ride, especially at the track. If you consider the import hassle being taken care of as part of the price, it appears to be priced accordingly for the market. The seller is asking $6,500, and it sounds like he is amenable to some horse-trading or at least negotiating. You can find it here on Craigslist in Marietta, Georgia.
