This weekend was the Red Hook Criterium race in Brooklyn. Right after the race started, the pace motorcycle stalled and the rider wasn’t able to get the bike started before the peloton caught up to him. It did not go well. Thankfully, there were no life threatening injuries, but this is an insane visual. Before the pile-up starts, you can get a brief look at the bike. Can you figure out what it is?
This one’s probably too easy but it’s also an excuse to bring up this crazy event – it’s an unsanctioned fixed-gear race in the streets of Brooklyn at night, and they’ve had a few incidents in the past as well.
I’m not going to share the video directly here, but if you really want to see it for yourself, follow this link. I’m not sure why a motorcycle was needed for this course, and it’s one of a few examples this year of cyclists having incidents with race motorcycles. It’s just an unfortunate situation overall and I hope the injured cyclists are able to heal soon.
