Congrats to RoHorn, who was the first to identify that these forks were from a Bimota KB2 Laser!
Bonus points to Wally, who noted that this specific bike recently sold on Iconic Motorbikes – a client sold it in Fort Myers, Florida sold it on our auction site and the buyer (in the Bay Area) wanted our shop to go through it before delivering it to him. Here’s the link if you’re curious.
The KB2 Laser utilized the mid-sized engine from the Z500 and was designed with a focus on low weight and excellent handling instead of monstrous power. Dry weight was claimed to be 410 pounds, some 60 pounds lighter than the Kawasaki. It was reportedly Massimo Tamburini’s favorite Bimota.
It was the last Bimota design that was available both as a kit or a complete bike, and just 177 examples were built. Such exclusivity got you top-notch components like Ceriani/Italia forks, a DeCarbon shock, and a set of Campagnolo 16″ magnesium wheels. With the KB2 Laser S, Bimota upgraded the engine to that of a KZ550.
A mere 50 bikes and 22 kits were produced, making them quite a rare sight. Want more photos? Check out this album!
