One of my favorite racing liveries of all time is the powder blue and marigold orange of Gulf Oil. Yet for varying reasons, I’ve usually been underwhelmed when custom bikes wear the iconic colors. This striking 748 custom is an exception to the rule, as I think it looks great.
If you want to drool over more examples of the Gulf scheme, check out this story on Petrolicious. But back to this bike. Mechanically, it’s fairly stock and it’s had plenty of new parts installed in the last 300 miles – cam belts, rear sprocket, fuel filter, front tire, battery, and spark plugs. For more information on the build, head on over to Return of the Cafe Racers.
The bike has 23,000+ miles on the odometer and there’s a couple of flaws – the front brake lever does not turn on the rear brake light and the neutral light only works when the motor is cold. If you can get over those issues, you can find this custom Ducati for sale here on Craigslist for $7,500 in Denton, Texas. What do you think – does the custom paint work here?
